1. When was the company founded?

Envato was founded in 2006.

2. Where is Envato based?

Envato is based in Melbourne, Australia, but its people telecommute from around the globe.

3. What does Envato do?

We operate a set of popular marketplaces for digital goods, a family of leading tutorial sites and a series of niche sites and projects. We believe in creating solid products, building communities and delivering consistently top-quality content. Our approach has yielded huge results and today traffic through the network is well in excess of 12 million pageviews a month and climbing fast.

4. Who works for Envato?

The company has employees based in Australia, the United States, Canada, Germany, Malaysia and elsewhere. Our processes and communications are web based, so our people regularly work while traveling the world.

5. How many sites has Envato launched?

We’ve launched five digital marketplaces (ActiveDen, AudioJungle, ThemeForest, VideoHive, GraphicRiver), eight tutorial websites (Psdtuts+, Nettuts+, Vectortuts+, Audiotuts+, Aetuts+, Activetuts+, Cgtuts+ and Phototuts+), the premiere blog and job board for freelancers (Freelance Switch, Jobs.FSw), a design inspiration site (Creattica), an internationally recognized non-profit initiative (Blog Action Day), and the AppStorm series of blogs (Mac.AppStorm and Web.AppStorm), plus the newly launched Work Awesome blog, about being awesome at work.

6. How do your employees stay connected?

Our staff are tech savvy and used to communicating online. We chat over Skype, Yammer, use good old email and IM, and some of us workstream. When we can, we meet up around the world.

7. Didn’t Envato used to be called Eden?

It did. Great name, right? Unfortunately, quite a few other companies thought so too. Rather than fight them for it, we changed the name to Envato so we could get back to doing what we do best: making cool websites. We think the new name is just as good, if not better.

8. What does Envato mean?

It means us. Seriously. The word has no other meaning than to represent our company. We’re pretty unique, so that suits us well.
