Mary Winkler
The work of Mary Winkler (aka Acrylicana) is vivid and whimsical. It's often child-like in theme, depicting sweets, fanciful creatures and rainbows as well as exploring the world of fashion and garment in illustrated form. Done in a variety of media, including digital, acrylic, watercolour and ink, Mary's work is pop art, graphic and, for lack of a better word, sparkly. Her work is painted on canvas, a variety of papers or printed by way of giclee ink jet or silk screen (usually onto fabric for pouches/bags). Mary studied Illustration at College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.

How to Create a Paper Quill Holiday Greeting in Adobe IllustratorQuilled 400
    6 shares
There's something so elegant about holiday greeting cards with their gilded script fonts, glittery snowmen, and often paper craft designs. One such craft that I long for the time and patience to practice is that of paper quilling (or paper filigree). Not only does the art form allow for intricately designed curves, spirals, and loops, the look of the final product, like most sculpture, can change with the way the piece is lit. Follow along for a tutorial on bringing this art form to your desktop via Adobe Illustrator CC, where we'll play with fonts, brush styles, and faking some studio lighting for a seasonal greeting. Classic fairy tales, like those collected by the Brothers Grimm or written by Charles Peraullt and Hans Christian Andersen are excellent sources for concept art. In this tutorial, we'll be focusing on Beauty and the Beast, a piece originally written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and popularized by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont. Each version of the story, adapted by numerous authors into a variety of media, has its own additions and subtractions to the original story. Concept art like this gives the artist creative freedom to work with an established character and add their own spin to the tale.
